Black Stars, Eagles clash again
From
George Aluo, Accra
Fierce soccer battle! That is
what Nigeria and Ghana will be doing this afternoon as the Super
Eagles Team B slug it out with the Black Stars at the Ohene Dajn
Stadium, Accra in the final round of the qualifiers for the African
Nations Championship, CHAN 2009.
Apart from the soccer rivalry
between both countries, the stakes in today’s encounter are very high,
given the fact that none of the two soccer giants would want to miss
the maiden edition of the newly introduced competition billed for
early next year in Cote d’Ivoire.
To show how desperate the
Ghanaians are, the GFA, last week, suspended the country’s two weeks
old league, ostensibly to give the home lads room to concentrate on
the tie. Their Serbian Technical Adviser, Milovan Rajevic has also
been told that he must beat Nigeria if he wants to keep the job he
only got a few months back.
But if the mood in the Super
Eagles Team B camp is anything to go by, then, the Black Stars are in
real trouble. The boys of Okey Emordi have vowed that they will leave
Accra on a victorious note.
Kano Pillars’ hitman, Bello
Kofarmata, who is set to lead the Eagles attack, told Sunday
ChampionSports that he would put smiles on the faces of Nigerians
with goals.
"We are ready for the match and
if I get the coach’s nod to play, I will make good use of it by
scoring goals," Kofarmata said last night after the team’s workout at
the venue of today’s game.
Efe Ambrose who will be
marshalling the defence also assured that himself and his colleagues
will give enough coverage to Bassey Akpan who will be manning the
post.
Emordi simply told Sunday
ChampionSports that he was aware of the expectations of Nigerians
both at home and here in Ghana, even as he declared that the Super
Eagles won’t disappoint.
The match kicks off at 6pm,
Nigerian time today.
