Three hundred students
of the first private polytechnic in Ekiti, Crown Polytechnic,
are to benefit from the state government’s scholarship scheme
this year.
The state commissioner
of education, Mrs. Abiola Ayimonche, who made the disclosure
in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while receiving the Rector of
the institution, Mr. Aderemi Oke an engineer, said the gesture
was part of the government’s contribution to the development
of the institution.
According to
commissioner, "The Governor, Mr. Segun Oni, has approved that
the students of Crown Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti can now apply for
the state scholarships scheme and benefit from the scheme like
their counterparts in the public institutions.
"We wish to commend the
polytechnic for the progressive growth and contributions to
human development within and outside the state", the
Commissioner stated.
She urged the
institution to furnish the government with documents relating
to the evidence of registration, approval from relevant
authorities, approved curriculum, physical plan/technical
structure and other helpful information.
Responding, the Rector
of the polytechnic, Mr. Aderemi Oke, noted that the state
government’s gesture would help in alleviating the financial
burden of the parents, saying "the scholarships approval will
benefit about 300 students of the Polytechnic and it will help
to alleviate the financial burden of parents as well as
helping the polytechnic to grow".
Oke said that the
National Board for Technical Education [NBTE] has approved
some courses of study, Accountancy, Electrical Electronics,
Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics and Estate Management
for the Institution, urging all parents to repose confidence
in the institution as a reliable citadel of learning.
He said efforts were
being taken to get the NBTE to approve five other courses
which included Computer Engineering, Business Administration,
Urban and Regional Planning and Secretarial Studies for the
next academic session in the school.
