Look up for redemption
By Emma okaelu
The record we have in
Luke 21:28 is that Jesus told His disciples to ... "look up
and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near"
(The Gideons International Version.) This was when they had
asked Him in verse 7, ... "Teacher, but when will these things
be ...?"
He had told them many
things in this chapter of the Bible in answer to their
question, and finally talked about false prophets who will
come in His name.
If the Creator of the
universe asks you to look up, wouldn’t you do so for your own
good? "Look up" could mean many things to many people, but to
me, taken literally, it means that you should cheer up in a
hopeless situation.
In this sinful,
adulterous and wicked world, a lot of things will make many
people to lose hope of survival. The Master Jesus is saying,
"look up" ... and not only looking up, but that our redemption
or salvation is drawing near.
"Look up" again means
that you are walking or coming out of that hopeless situation
you have found yourself in. It is most likely that some people
wouldn’t like to look up because they might say, "suppose I
look up, and nothing happens?"
We will consider this
statement of Jesus from two angles:
(1) If He tells you to
look up, and that your problems will soon be over, yours is to
believe Him. The answer may not come immediately, but you
should believe. When God promised Abraham a son at the age of
75, the promise came to pass after 25 solid years. In the
sight of God, He never delayed - it was just like one minute
interval.
(2) You will agree with
me that a similar command was given to the children of Israel
when they were on their journey to the promised land. God
commanded Moses to make a brazen serpent, and hang it a pole,
and that whoever that was bitten by the serpent, if he looked
up, would live. It was so that those who looked up didn’t die
(Numbers 21: 6-9.)
So, I want to encourage
you to look up because you will soon come out of that problem
in Jesus’ name.
May you be blessed!
