Idoko Cup: Twenty-four teams battle for N.65m

The much awaited Idoko Cup finally kicked off on Wednesday with 24 participating teams. The tournament which has The Police College Ground as its venue is billed to run for ten days, November 26th to December 6th.

The event promises to be a fun filled one as the crème de la crème of the sporting sector are billed to grace the occasion.

Topmost on the list is the Super Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu who will be leading a pack of international scouts from across the world.

The sponsor of the event, Mike Idoko, who is also the spokesman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), told Sporting Champion that he was happy with the way the tournament was shaping, and thanked the LOC for their preparedness for the event. He had earlier assured the participating teams of excellent officiating from the best referees.

"It is my own little way of developing grassroots football in our country. With this humble beginning, we can be sure that new talents would be discovered for international engagements," he said.

Winners of the Idoko Cup are to walk home with a whopping N300, 000 and a trophy. The first and second runners-up are excepted to smile home with N200, 000 and N150, 000 respectively.
