Abundant soccer skills devoid of
discipline, has been described as a big minus and a virus worthy of
avoidance.
Chairman, Organizing Committee
for the forthcoming Academicals Cup for Under 13 and 15 boys, Emeka
Nwapa, who made the submission, noted that indiscipline has denied
many athletes opportunity of achieving greatness in life.
The best bet he opined, is to
ensure that young ones wear the toga of discipline from the outset.
The championship dubbed
Football Carnival according to him, will be staged at Government
Technical College, Ikorodu play ground later in the month. He hinted
that participants who fail to play by the rules, will be dealt with.
"Discipline of players and
indeed officials, will not be compromised when the carnival kicks off.
The importance of discipline in sports cannot be overemphasized.
"A lot of athletes though
skillful, have derailed because they lack discipline which is why, we
won’t spare the rod from day one," he said.
Nwapa who challenged more
communities in the country to float underage championships to properly
harness abundant talents in the country, disclosed that mouthwatering
prizes aside from the golden trophy, have been placed on the table for
would be champions.
The event he further added, is
not only aimed at boosting soccer at the grassroots, but also prevent
young ones imbibing anti socials vices early in life, even as called
on youth clubs who have not registered for the event to do so.
