DEPUTY governor of Lagos State,
Mrs. Sarah Adebisi Sosan, has urged top level career women to support
the mid-level ones so that they could maximize their potentials and
excel in their chosen careers.
Mrs. Sosan made this call
recently in Lagos during the inaugural launch and fund raising
ceremony of a strategic mentoring network entitled "Women in
Successful Careers" (WISCAR).
According to a statement made
available to Saturday Champion, the deputy governor, lauded the
founder of WISCAR, Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, who is the Human Resources
Executive at MTN Nigeria, and said that the project would go a long
way in advancing the course of women.
"I must say that the WISCAR
initiative is a very commendable one because the problems faced by
professional women in Nigeria are very critical and need to be
addressed. I believe that with proper guidance from organizations such
as these, we can begin to have more women venturing into areas such as
politics and excelling in it," she said.
WISCAR is a mentoring network
that mobilizes a pool of progressive women in senior/executive
management levels to effectively act as mentors to entry/mid-level
professionals in a structured framework designed to provide practical
advice and guidance over a specified period.
In her speech, founder, Mrs.
Oyagbola stated that in line with its motto of ‘Developing women to
build a better nation,’ WISCAR’s mentoring approach has been modeled
on international best practice while also being sensitive to the
Nigerian socio-cultural context.
The event which was chaired by
the first female justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice
Aloma Mukhtar, attracted the crème of corporate Nigeria.
