KOGI
state chapter of the Action Congress [AC] has described the recent
victory of the Edo state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, as
victory for the common man and the rule of law.
Acting chairman of the party in
the state, Alhaji Hadi Ametuo, who disclosed this in a statement made
available to our correspondent in Lokoja, noted that Oshiomhole is an
amiable party man and a visionary leader with outstanding record of
achievements and is now poised in committing his wealth of experience
in serving his people.
According to him, the victory
has also restored the needed hope for the independence of the nation’s
judiciary.
" I salute the perseverance of
my fellow countrymen particularly the judiciary for the vibrant steps
taken so far at ensuring that the mandate of the electorate is not
jeopardized. I sincerely beg of the judiciary to ensure that pending
cases at various levels are handled with utmost sincerity for the sake
of God and posterity.
"Let me state here that power
belongs to God. He gives power to whoever he wishes and they that seek
power at all cost and by all means only because of their huge appetite
for sustenance and material wealth at the expense of the people should
know that they shall never go Scot – free. The law will definitely
catch up with them," the statement added.
The AC chairman then condemned
the comment of INEC chairman, Prof Maurice Iwu, who called on the
United States of America to come to Nigeria and learn how to conduct
election, stressing that the statement is an insult to the American
people.
"What has Iwu got to offer,
except to infect the Americans with the cancer of rigging that he has
flagrantly introduced to our electoral system?
"Actually, there is no society
devoid of cheat and corruption but the case in Nigeria is outrageous
and calls for serious concern which the judiciary seeks to address
squarely," the statement noted.
