Ritualists behead man in Onitsha

Alphonsus Nweze, Onitsha

Barely one week after the gruesome murder of two daughters of the first Speaker of Eastern Region late Mr. Earnest Egbuna, suspected ritualists in Onitsha, Anambra State were at it as they beheaded a young man in front of Ministry of works opposite Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.

The incident which was said to have taken place early morning yesterday attracted a lot of passers-by and sympathizers who came to catch a glimpse of the gory headless body.

The ugly incident elicited tears especially from women who wailed openly, abused and cursed the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

A source told Daily Champion that the murder was discovered by members of the Catholic church who were at the Basilica for early morning prayer session. They were startled when they discovered a pool of blood besides the gate of the Basilica on Ridge Road Onitsha.

On further enquiry, the people discovered a headless body of a young man dumped inside the drainage system, almost 20 metres from the pool of blood and was covered with some plantain leaves.

The Police at Onitsha Police Central Station when contacted came to remove the headless body about 11:30 am, but there was blood at the scene of the incident.

The Onitsha Police Area Commander, Mr. Rasheed Akintunde, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who confirmed the incident, said that he was briefed through a mobile telephone while travelling to Awka for a meeting with the Anambra State Commissioner of police.

He vowed that the Police in Onitsha and the entire state would get to the root of the gruesome murder, saying that a team of detectives have already swung into action to get the perpetrators.
