Alert: Fake
ice cream in circulation
INVESTIGATIONS by nutrition experts have
revealed that some unscrupulous persons have engaged themselves
in the business of making fake ice creams and even pass those
ice creams to the unsuspecting public as UAC Supreme Ice Cream.
These fake ice creams, when tested in the Laboratory and
thoroughly analysed under the microscopes was found to contain
unacceptable high levels of microbes. These microbes hamper the
health, they lead to diarrhoea and may cause typhoid fever.
Investigations revealed that the office
address of these fake producers is Londa Food International
Ltd, beside Texaco petrol station, off Lagos - Ibadan
Expressway, Isheri Down, Ogun state with telephone numbers
00234-1-8195225, 8739258.
•The office is an isolated warehouse space
with no signage showing proper location.
•It is a secluded place with one gateman, a
Nigerian lady interpreter working with Chinese men who could not
communicate in English.
•They claimed their colleague that
understands English went out for supplies.
•On the way out, there was a refrigerated van
driving into the premises, apparently returning from sales.
•They offer many varieties to consumers,
ranging from ice cream in both bars and bowls.
•On inquiry on why the other variants shown
in their poster was not available , they claimed they are
processing NAFDAC registration and as soon as they get approval,
all variants will be available.
*The products were first noticed in Osata
supermarket sometime in April, 2008 on inquiry, they claim the
ice cream is produced in the warehouse located off Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway. But this is doubtful.
•There is a promotion "buy one carton get one
carton free", which may be the strategy to run off the products
that will expire between October/November, 2008.
Nigerians are therefore warned to be on the
alert to avoid buying these fake ice cream which will only
injure their health.
