,
a second collection of poems publication of the widely acclaimed
author, poet, essayist and literary critic, Ahmed Maiwada, by Hybun
Publications International will be the centre of attraction for
writers and literary enthusiasts as the poet takes the centre stage at
The British Councils, Abuja, Friday, November 28.
The event which has already
begun to generate heated but healthy debate in literary circles is
being organized by the Abuja Literary Society (ALS) in conjunction
with Hybun Readers Club, to promote and encourage reading in the
country.
In the words of Ken Ike Okere,
the ALS Slam Master, ‘this is only one of our several ways of
supporting a robust reading and literary culture in our society. We
have very many other such activities, some of which we have recently
unveiled and are running already, and some others that will be
unveiled soon’. Speaking further, he said ‘ALS has been in the
forefront of the promotion of a literary culture since 1999. Its
reading sessions hold three times a month’.
Ahmed Maiwada is no stranger to
the literary community. His first book, Saint of a Woman, also
a collection of poems, released in 2004 by Hybun Publications
International, raised the tempo of literary discourse at the time, as
critics took the book aside, piece by piece, evaluating the literary
value of every part of his craftsmanship, and in the end, came up with
a positive verdict.
